Crib backgrounds

The new background picture of the South Tyrollean nativity scene with its 40cm high, handmade, wooden figures was painted by us in November 2012 in a stylish painting technique, using a relatively large amount of contrast.  The crib is presented once a year at the Haidhausener Christmas market in an especially for the nativity scene built blockhouse. The stylising painting style of the background panorama is due to the ambiance of the figure presentation, in which too fine and tame nuances would not come to live. Nonetheless, the sky required 4 to 5 layers of glazing, to guarantee an even colour progression from ultramarine in the zenith to the chrome yellow light in the immediate vicinity of the crib.
The work was undertaken using acrylic colours on a stable canvas. For the middle part a special frame made from squared timber was made, which fits exactly onto the gable.

The 10 square metre large panorama background was a donation to the Christmas market by Studio Benad, and was gratefully received by the “Association of Events in Haidenhausen”. We are very pleased to be able to do our part to make sure, that the original idea of Christmas is not lost sight of in the excitement of the market.
