Ursula und Martin Benad
Ursula Benad
Ursula studied textile and wall design – this combination arising from a lecturers passion for Italian frescoes. Initially Ursula worked in the textile and fashion industry, where she held a top position with Esprit worldwide, although her main bases where the Far East and the USA. She left to open her own fashion studio in Düsseldorf, designing part of the collections for international companies, such as Elegance and MCM.
Ursula greatly enjoyed her work, but a three-month sabbatical in Venice was to change her life and take her back to her artistic roots – painting. In Venice Ursula discovered that the world of antique painting techniques, trompe l’œil and frescoes were appearing in new businesses and restaurants. They were very beautiful, but achieved by modern artists who had acquired the old skills and updated them. This was the catalyst. After further training she revived her talent; painting, refining, perfecting and making this area of art her vocation. In 1996 she and her husband established Atelier Benad in Munich (see below).
Martin Benad
Martin has a predominately musical background. Having studied music from early childhood, at twenty he passed the necessary exams to become a church organist, chorus master and conductor. After attending a Rudolf Steiner college for four years he went on to found an arts centre near Hannover. He freelanced as an artist and for a further three years studied poetry reading. His seminars on the themes of perception training, colour psychology and wholistic thinking lead increasingly to requests to design interiors. He says: “My path to colour began philosophically. I was fascinated by the relationship between outside colour (nature) an inside colour (human experience).” On meeting his future wife in 1993 it was natural that they should combine their talent, skills, creativity and diverse backgrounds. Atelier Benad was born.
Martin is a member of BEF /International Association of Colour Consultants, DFZ Deutsches Farbenzentrum (German Colour Centre), IFMA International Forum Man and Architecture
Atelier Benad
Ursula and Martin Benad have been runing their company Atelier Benad since 1996. Atelier Benad specializes in murals, colour planning and paint effects. It also offers seminars and initial and advanced training courses. Ursula takes the main responsibility for murals and advanced trainings, Martin for writing and colour planning. He also gives talks nationally.
The mural painting department on this website gives an impression of Atelier Benads´ talents, skills and considerable output. Martin and Ursula work collaborately when creating their murals, whether for the private or business sections, their starting point always being the character of the building itself and the desires of their client. Whilst murals have been commissioned by prominent and celebrate people they are accessable to all.
To date Ursula and Martin have published eleven books which whilst standing independently also support their many workshops. Through their seminars and workshops Atelier Benad has influenced several thousands interior painters and designers, Feng Shui consultants and non professionals.
As their work continues to gain international respect, recognition and demand they appreciate the necessity for their website category “colour scheming” to be translated into English. This is a work in progress.
In the summer of 2007 Atelier Benad moved its training facility to larger premises in one of Munichs lovliest old quarters, Haidhausen (Bordeauxplatz, Wörthstr. 22)
