Colour Psychology
The effect of colour, the impression it makes upon us, whether colour can heal or cause illnesses, whether it can give strength or cause weaknesses… these are questions which the experts have been debating but also which arouses interest among the general public.
The methods to acquire knowledge about colour differ greatly. Between the rather matter-of-fact statistics obtained from scientific research (i.e. in perception psychology, preference research, and psychophysics) and the exuberant individual speculations, which can only with great difficult be held apart, there is room for a wide spectrum of personal appropriations. Artists, nature lovers, art history experts, biologists or web designers…they all have their own relationship to the psychology of colour. The term of colour psychology is rather vaguely defined. Opinions vary according to the scientific content, the goals and methods of research.
To invite discussions on the theme of “the effects of colour”, we offer a download of three excerpts from books written by Ursula and Martin Benad on our German website.
